Mumbai Prepares for Record Influx of Devotees: Special Trains, Bus Services, and Traffic Diverts for Mahaparinirvan Diwas 2024

As December 6 approaches, Mumbai gears up for the commemoration of Mahaparinirvan Diwas, marking the death anniversary of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. Thousands of devotees from across the city will descend on Chaityabhoomi in Dadar, a location that becomes the epicenter of the day’s observances. To ensure smooth transportation and manage the anticipated crowd, Mumbai authorities have implemented a comprehensive plan involving special trains, buses, and traffic control measures.

Dadar Braces for a Surge in Foot Traffic on Mahaparinirvan Diwas 2024

Dadar, a major transit hub in Mumbai, will experience an enormous surge in foot traffic during Mahaparinirvan Diwas. Typically, around 75-80 lakh passengers use Dadar Station on a regular day, but for this significant occasion, that number is expected to increase to 90-95 lakh. This surge will primarily consist of devotees making their way to Chaityabhoomi to pay respects to Dr. Ambedkar, making it one of the busiest days for the city’s transportation system.

Special Trains and Adjusted Bus Services for Devotees

To accommodate the influx, the Central and Western Railways will operate special trains. These trains will run at increased frequencies to ensure devotees can reach Dadar without unnecessary delays. Additionally, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) will deploy additional buses to manage the surge. Routes leading directly to Chaityabhoomi and Dadar will see frequent services, easing the commute for thousands of devotees.

Traffic Management and Route Diversions

With thousands expected to gather at Chaityabhoomi, several traffic control measures have been introduced to ensure safety. Major roads leading to Dadar and surrounding areas will experience road closures and diversions. Only emergency vehicles will be permitted to use these routes. These diversions will help manage the heavy traffic expected around Dadar, reducing congestion and enhancing pedestrian safety.

A critical pedestrian bridge, the Central Large Bridge, will be restricted to platform transfers only, while the skywalk bridge will accommodate commuters entering and exiting the station from the east or west. This organized system aims to prevent overcrowding and ensure smooth transit.

Emergency Services and Safety Protocols

With such a large crowd gathering at Dadar, emergency services are being put in place. Mumbai Police will maintain a strong presence in the area, assisting in crowd control and ensuring that no incidents occur. Additionally, temporary medical facilities will be set up to attend to any health emergencies that may arise. Fire safety personnel and ambulances will be stationed throughout the area, ready to respond quickly in case of an emergency.

Mumbai’s extensive preparations for Mahaparinirvan Diwas 2024 reflect the city’s commitment to ensuring a smooth, safe, and hassle-free experience for the thousands of devotees who will visit Dadar to pay homage to Dr. Ambedkar. Special trains, buses, and carefully planned traffic management measures will ease the pressure on Mumbai’s transport network while ensuring the safety and well-being of all involved.
